Admission – New Nation School

Admission

ADMISSIONS PROCESS

Kindly download and complete the Prospective Student Information Form found HERE  and submit it with the following supporting documents:

  • Your child’s/ward’s birth certificate or passport
  • A copy of your child’s/ward’s latest school report
  • A copy of your child’s/ward’s results certificates for any external examinations taken (such as WAEC or CIE exams)

The school will decide which class/form is likely to be the ‘best fit’ for your child/ward. This decision will be based on the following:

  • Your child’s/ward’s date of birth
  • The last class/form your child/ward was in or completed
  • Your child’s/ward’s latest school report

The school will decide which class/form is likely to be the ‘best fit’ for your child/ward. This decision will be based on the following:

  • Your child’s/ward’s date of birth
  • The last class/form your child/ward was in or completed
  • Your child’s/ward’s latest school report
  • Your child/ward will be invited to attend for an entry assessment
  • Entry assessments test numeracy and literacy skills

Please note that we do not formally assess children seeking admission to the nursery classes. Rather, the school will arrange a period of observation and/or a probationary period for the children

Your child/ward will be invited to attend for an entry assessment. Entry assessments test numeracy and literacy skills.

Please note that we do not formally assess children seeking admission to the nursery classes. Rather, the school will arrange a period of observation and/or a probationary period for the children.

If your child/ward performs to a satisfactory standard on the assessment or (in the case of Nursery applicants) is given a favourable report after the observation period, the school will offer your child/ward a place and you will be invited to attend a parents’ information session.

If your child does not perform to a satisfactory standard on the assessment (or, does not receive a favourable report following an observation period in the nursery) then you will be advised that no place can be offered. In a limited number of special circumstances your child/ward may be offered a probationary place (that is, he/she will be offered admission subject to certain conditions).

Please note that if there is no space in the relevant class or form, then no place can be offered. However, your child’s/ward’s name will be placed on a waiting list for that class/form and the school will contact you if a place becomes available at a later date.

Following the parents’ information session, if you wish to proceed with the admissions procedure, you will be asked to:

  • Sign an Acceptance Form
  • Pay the Admission Fee
  • Pay one term’s Tuition Fee

Please note that this procedure must be completed in full before a place can be guaranteed for your child.  Accordingly, please do not withdraw your child from his/her present school before this.

ADMISSION AGE

To be admitted to a class, a child must have attained the minimum age for that class on or by the 31st day of the month of August preceding the beginning of the academic year.  Children who have not attained the minimum age for a given class will not be admitted to the class no matter how close they are to the minimum age.

Please note that date of birth is not the only determinant the school takes into account in selecting the appropriate class for your child/ward.  To be admitted to a class, your child should have successfully completed the preceding class and should be able to pass the entry assessment for the target class.

Occasionally, the school may admit a child whose age is above that expected for a particular class (if it is judged to be in the child’s best interests to do so).  However, the school may refuse to admit a child to a particular class if it is the school’s considered opinion that the child is too much above the normal age.
